Definitions for the set subjects
Animal Activity
A photograph that clearly shows an animal as the main subject engaged in a natural activity. This could include playing, hunting, feeding etc but not something static such as sleeping. The image can include objects or humans as long as they do NOT dominate the image. (Birds, reptiles, sea creatures and insects are excluded.)
Leading Lines
A photograph of any subject offering a visual exploration of form and structure, where lines take centre stage in shaping composition and mood. This theme emphasizes the interplay of light, shadow, and geometry, transforming lines into powerful elements of design. Whether straight, curved, or abstract, lines guide the viewer's eye, creating dynamic patterns and striking contrasts. The image can be colour or monochrome to focus on tone, texture, depth, and the purity of the composition.
Unusual Angles
A photograph emphasising uncommon presentations of an image due to the shooting position, type of lens or distortion of the usual form of the subject. This is a chance to have a good play with subject, equipment, settings, post processing. Experiment with Low, High, Point Of View, Dutch Tilt etc.
Food
A photograph showing appealing and appetizing images of food that can include ingredients, preparation, serving and even eating. Use lighting and styling to make food look fresh, vibrant, and delicious.
Framed by a Window
A photograph using a window to create a frame or a frame within a frame around the subject. The aim is to focus the viewer's attention and add depth to the image.
Performers
A photograph of musicians, actors, dancers or other performers, playing, singing, acting — candid or posed. The performer must dominate the image.
Boats (Not ships)
A photograph capturing images of boats, their details and life on and around them. You can use different angles and equipment to showcase the boat's exterior and interior. The photograph can be taken onboard or externally.
Sports Photography
A photograph capturing people in moments of action, emotion and intensity during any type of sports event. It involves capturing motion and dynamics of the game.
Farm (Rural) Life
A photograph capturing the natural, agricultural and cultural elements of countryside life. It can encompass rural architecture, farm animals, farming landscapes and the interaction between human activity and the natural environment. The aim is to tell a story or evoke a sense of place and emotion.
The Effects of Weather
A photograph showing the result of weather past. This could be Rust, Corrosion, Erosion, Storm Damage, Sun Bleaching, Frozen items or the like. It is NOT the capture of Storm Clouds, Lightning or Large Waves. It should tell a story of what has happened to the object due to weather.
